Overpopulation

Overpopulation is the main cause of most problems worldwide. Whether it is a question of a lack of food, a lack of drinking water or a lack of energy, each country in the world is, or will be, affected by this factor.

According to the Ten Million Club Foundation , the world population threatens to reach, in the next decades, 8 or 10 billion people.

The climate is changing and the slightest rise in sea levels will cause some of the agricultural land to disappear and, although we think we have survival strategies and that technologies have been solving several problems, the reality is that these solutions have not yet been able to fight hunger in the world.

How are overpopulation and food related?

Although it has already been mentioned that there is too much food to be wasted, in many parts of the globe the problem is reversed. It is essentially in the poorest countries of the Third World that hunger worsens as their populations grow. The total number of people suffering from food shortages is over one billion people worldwide.

The lack of food in underdeveloped countries and its poor quality have a negative impact on people's health, the quality of the workforce and productivity, that is, they impede economic growth. This also causes social and political tensions and conflicts, both in regions suffering from food problems and around the world.

Why is there so much food in some countries and so little in others?

It is estimated that, in terms of scale, world food production corresponds to the requirements of the current world. However, production, quality and food efficiency are unevenly distributed in different regions around the world. While there are more than a billion people starving around the world, there are also about 1.6 million people who suffer from obesity and overfeeding.

Despite the creation of thousands of institutions and organizations that promote the fight against global hunger, over the years, the truth is that this is a problem that continues to grow and has not yet been solved.

Although it is not in our hands to play the role of international governments, we can always help those who need it most. It is in this context that ShareTheMeal was created, an app created at the initiative of the United Nations World Food Program (WFP), with the objective of fighting hunger. People who download the application can make donations with the amount they want, for the cause they want, and with just 0.70 € you can already feed 1 person.
